Florence Nightingale

PIONEER OF MODERN NURSING
*MAY 12, 1820, IN FLORENCE, ITALY
†AUGUST 13, 1910, IN LONDON, ENGLAND

Florence Nightingale made history as the founder of modern nursing. With her dedication and groundbreaking methods, she revolutionized healthcare and laid the foundation for professional nursing.
During the Crimean War (1853–1856), she became known as “The Lady with the Lamp”. This was because she would walk through field hospitals at night with a lamp to find the wounded and often deserted to care for. Her reforms in hygiene and hospital organization drastically reduced mortality rates and saved countless lives.

Did you know that Florence Nightingale was also an outstanding mathematician? She used statistics to analyze conditions in hospitals and scientifically measure their improvements, or lack thereof. Have you ever contemplated how important structured nursing care and hygiene are across all healthcare?

At Doctourm, we employ Registered Nurses (RNs), who are indispensable in modern practice management. In addition to their many other medical tasks, wound treatment is foremost among the RN’s competencies. Should you require wound treatment, our Doctorum always has a RN standing by to manage your recovery.

Fun Fact

Florence Nightingale herself suffered from chronic illnesses, but this did not stop her from fighting tirelessly for the improvement of healthcare. Her energy and determination inspired generations of nurses and established the field proper in her example.
