Sigmund Freud

PSYCHOLOGIST
*MAY 6, 1856, IN FREIBERG MORAVIA, CZECHIA
†SEPTEMBER 23, 1939, IN LONDON, ENGLAND

Sigmund Freud is known as the founder of psychoanalysis, a revolutionary method for treating mental illness. He developed concepts such as the unconscious, dream analysis, and the importance of childhood experiences for personality development.

Freud’s work has profoundly shaped the understanding of human psychology and psychotherapy, which evolved into a multitude of branches in the field, and which continues to influence therapeutic approaches today. Freud was Jewish and emigrated to London in 1938 to escape Nazism, where he spent the last year of his life. Despite the challenges he faced, Freud left a significant legacy in psychotherapy that resonates to this day.

Did you know that psychoanalysis isn't just deployed in psychotherapy, but also across other fields such as literature, art, and cultural studies? Many different types of scholars and individuals use Freud's theories to better understand human behavior and interpersonal relationships.
